In America, the early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely be in the child prodigy category. However, for a child of Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and family, those were not innate traits. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons was a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as had shares in the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and was a lover of rough play. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift to perform. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her home country. At the age of 14, she was admitted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre as well as operatic vocals.
